Recognition for Duke’s of St Andrews

The Championship Duke’s Golf Club, owned by the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews, has won two high profile accolades.

The first is a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, awarded to businesses that rank in the top 10% worldwide for traveller feedback. The second is recognition from one of the world’s leading golfing magazines, Golf Week. The magazine has published its latest ‘best modern courses’ listing – and places The Duke’s at 29th in the whole of the UK and Ireland.

Duke’s manager, David Scott, is “absolutely delighted” with the recognition, saying: “These are a real testament to the incredible hard work and dedication from our green keeping staff. Their efforts this year have delivered a course that is probably in the best condition it has ever been – a Championship course of which we are very proud.”

The course, designed by five times Open winner, Peter Thomson, is set in a spectacular location above St Andrews with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside to the sea. It underwent a major transformation in the last decade, re-opening seven years ago following substantial changes by American golf course architect, Tim Liddy, protégé of Pete Dye. It is regarded as one of the finest heathland courses in the country and has been chosen to host next year’s European Amateur Championship in August 2014. And some of the very best amateur golfers from Fife will be heading to The Duke’s in October when the club hosts the Black Tees Tournament.

David explains: “For those with a handicap of 3 or better, the Duke’s is hosting a one round event on Saturday 5th October from our Championship Tees. It is a fabulous test of golf, and we know that low handicappers love the challenge presented by the course.”

David adds: “The TripAdvisor accolade is fabulous – and we thank all those visitors who have taken the time to share their feedback on their experience at The Duke’s. The ‘Golf Week’ listing places the Duke’s above some of the very best courses in the UK and Ireland – so we are genuinely thrilled with their recognition and we very much look forward to welcoming the area’s best amateurs to take on our Black Tees this autumn.”
